When I was first asked to endorse Christa Caceres by Mike Weinstein, I said I would be happy to consider it, but I would have to know more about her qualifications and the type of person she is. As governor I dealt with county commissions in all 67 counties of our Commonwealth and know how important they are in improving the quality of life of their citizens. After researching Christa’s qualifications, I can honestly say that I have never seen a candidate for county commissioner have as broad experience as Christa has had, which gives her hands-on experience in the things that a county commissioner must understand and deal with. Her service with the Pocono Mountains Chamber of Commerce gives her insight into how to build a strong and diverse economy for the county. Her experience as senior constituent advocate for Congressman Matt Cartwright gives her tremendous insight in the capacity of the federal government to help with county needs. Her service on the board of the Greater Pike Community Foundation, the Pocono Mountains United Way, the Safe Haven of Pike County, and as president of the Monroe County NAACP give her wide-running experience to marshal the resources of these groups to help the government in dealing with the needs of the people of Pike County. And lastly her appointment by the county commissioners to be the founding chairperson of the newly created Pike County Commission on Women and her 2023 appointment by Governor Shapiro to be the vice chair of the Governor’s Advisory Council on African American Affairs give her experience in working with the commissioners and with our state government in Harrisburg. This experience is all terrific, but it would not be enough if it did not help shape Christa’s reason for running for office. Christa has a strong passion for helping people in need and believes, as I do, that is the government’s number one responsibility. She has demonstrated that passion in her work to improve the county’s rideshare service for seniors and those with developmental and intellectual disabilities and her work to bring better paying low impact jobs to the county. I am certain that if elected she will bring a new perspective and new energy that prioritizes human needs and environmental progress. Christa has the experience and the demonstrated passion to be a superb county commissioner.
