Healthcare in school

We have a 10-year-old child in the Delaware Valley School District who has Type 1 diabetes. Our administration has denied the use of an app that will allow the school nurse to receive alerts on her iPad that will let her know when my child’s blood glucose is out of range. They are relying on a child to monitor themselves and take appropriate action.

This is life-saving technology that can prevent a medical emergency for people with diabetes.

The device is FDA-approved, advocated for by the ADA, and the DOJ issues mandates for its use. There are at least 10 school districts in PA that use the app.

After attending two school board meetings, the Board is having discussions about this. This is a small step forward; however, we need anyone who has an interest in keeping our children safe at school to attend the Nov. 14 Work Session. We need them to understand that the Administration who makes the decisions regarding this have no medical background.

Please help us to make the School Board see that they need to do right by our children.
