Tonkin gets my vote
To the Editor:
About our current District Attorney primary, both candidates support special courts and a child advocacy center. But a district attorney cannot start veterans courts or drug courts, only our county commissioners and judges can do that. The creation of a child advocacy center is already underway (through the efforts of our current district attorney and Safe Haven).
Our district attorney, Ray Tonkin, is highly thought of and is a member of the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association. He is on their executive committee; is one of four DAs on their Rules of Criminal Procedure Committee; and is chair of the PDAA Capital Litigation Committee. In addition to various task forces, he and his office work with Safe Haven, Pike County Area Agency on Aging, and Children and Youth Services.
I will be voting for Ray Tonkin. Our Pike County DA's office has a talented and accomplished group of prosecutors. They have been doing the job, applying the law and holding those who break the law accountable. Seeing no reason to make a change, this is what I will be thinking when I am alone and about to mark my vote.
