Will she really live up to her promise to represent all the residents of our town, ‘regardless of political affiliation’?
To the Editor:
The 2020 election was memorable in many ways, but for those of us who live in Milford Borough, one aspect stands out. It was an elaborate display consisting of armed, uniformed mannequins representing Donald Trump and a couple of other figures, staged on a flatbed truck complete with flags and hand-lettered signs hostile to “Democrats” and “Milford liberals.”
This extraordinary exhibit was parked in the front yard of the current Republican candidate for mayor, Lisa Emery (except when it was driven around town, the better to intimidate Democrats and “Milford liberals” where they worked, dined and shopped).
The candidate had every right to express her political opinion publicly, thanks to our American right to free speech. Nevertheless, she must accept the consequences of putting out this kind of hostile, hateful message – namely, that many of us do not believe claims (made on her website) that she would represent all the residents of our town, “regardless of political affiliation,” if she were elected.
The veiled threats in her election display to those who vote differently from her should disqualify Ms. Emery from consideration for any elected office.
