To the Editor:
I’d like to thank Brian Fells, a combat veteran with 13 years in the United States Air Force, for his service and for his respectful point of view that represents the sentiment of so many parents in the Delaware Valley district. I have witnessed your reputation being viciously attacked in social media by others who support the opposing party, simply for sharing your thoughts. That behavior is not only concerning to me as a parent, but downright disrespectful to anyone, no less a member of our armed forces. I agree with your point that we need to be setting better examples for our children.
As for the “science,” there are studies that support both sides of the mask issue yet we only look at one side. There are growing concerns about the impact of children wearing masks for long periods of time such as their ability to breathe well or their anxiety around it and yet we are vilified for even talking about it. There is also growing evidence that shows the importance of natural immunity in the fight against this virus yet some of our health leaders refuse to even discuss it. These are some of the questions we ask ourselves and then are labeled as ignorant for even asking. Let me ask this: if we can’t respectfully discuss all sides of an issue, then how are we expected to trust everything that is being told to us? I think we all agree that Covid is here to stay and so we need to be weighing all of the benefits and risks of these measures on our children.
We respect your choice to do what you feel is best for your children. Please do the same. Shaming, hatred, and disrespect is never the answer.
Please support Pam Lutfy, Jessica Decker, Felicia Sheehan, and Derek Smith on Tuesday, Nov. 2.
