It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of John Henry Finkeldie Jr. of Milford, Pa., on March 27, 2025, at the age of 85 years. He was surrounded by his family.
John is survived by his son John Henry Finkeldie III and his wife, Valerie Finkedie (née Paich); his daughter Nicole Michele Gerami (née Finkeldie, predeceased by her husband, Shahab Gerami); his grandchildren: Bijan, Arman, and Ava Gerami, Olivia and John Henry Finkeldie IV.
John also had four step-children from his loving wife, Laura DeFlores Finkeldie, by whom he was predeceased.
John will be dearly missed by his family and friends, especially those from the Matamoras Rod and Gun Club, Anglers and philanthropic organizations he belonged to.
John was born on Dec. 2, 1939, in Bayonne, N.J., to Mary Nahrebny and John Henry Finkeldie Sr., who were first generation Americans.
John Jr. was proud of his German-Ukrainian heritage and Ukrainian Orthodox religious upbringing.
He was a teacher in his early career, having graduated from New Jersey State Teachers College in Jersey City, N.J.
John married Ottilia Maria Caluori of Chur, Switzerland, in 1963 and started his family in Oak Ridge, N.J. Later in life, John moved to Milford, Pa., and opened his own business, Pocono Perk and Design.
John was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved history and read many books on the Native American inhabitants of Pennsylvania and the battles fought there from the French and Indian wars through the Civil War. John was a champion of wildlife and always had a black Labrador Retriever by his side.
Visitation will be held at Stroyan Funeral Home, 405 W. Harford St., Milford, Pa., on Friday, April 4, from 5 to 8 p.m.
A private funeral service for family will be held at Milford Cemetery on Saturday, April 5, at 10:30 a.m. followed by a repast.
