Cory Homer
MATAMORAS. Cory Homer (Republican) is running for mayor of Matamoras Borough.
Why are you running for mayor?
I am running to help ensure we preserve the Matamoras that I grew up in. I was one of the first junior councilmen for Matamoras when I was a teenager and earned the Future Leaders of Pike County scholarship.
After graduating from Delaware Valley, I went away to earn an education and gain experience that will help benefit the borough. I am raising my family in Matamoras and have been an active volunteer in countless organizations for 20-plus years.
What are the top three issues facing the borough today and how do you plan to address them?
Three issues facing the borough today include needing to improve resident communication, foster better community engagement, and promote local business.
Resident communication will be addressed through community surveys, open forums, and solidifying better channels for public feedback. These communication channels will help drive what is needed to foster better community engagement through a strategic plan for the borough.
The strategic plan will help guide the borough in programming as well as attract local, state, and federal grants.
The promotion of local business will be accomplished through welcome packets for all new residents, celebratory events for new businesses or business milestones, and better integration of local business in community events.
What sets you apart from your challengers?
I grew up in the borough and have firsthand experience of what will help the town prosper. Now that I have the experience and education to give back to the borough, I am well-positioned to do just that.
I have extensive experience in strategic planning, grant writing, and research. In addition, I have served eight years on the Delaware Valley school board, 10 years as a youth sports coach, and 16 years as a volunteer firefighter.
Feel free to add information about your background and qualifications.
In addition to everything mentioned above, I am a college vice president, have a Ph.D in psychology, and have helped earn over $5 million in grants over the last four years.
