At the Pike County Commissioners’ Feb. 19. meeting, the Commissioners passed a resolution recognizing February as National Senior Independence Month, calling upon all residents to join in by recognizing the contributions of our older residents and promoting programs and activities that foster connection, inclusion, and support for older adults.

In celebration of National Senior Independence Month, Lana Romeo, activity/program director at the Pike County Area Agency on Aging, announced the launch of two new programs offered through the office free of charge.

Bingocize

Bingocize combines a classic pastime with exercise. According to the Aging Office, Bingocize is an evidence-based health and wellness program aimed at promoting physical fitness and proper nutrition by combining exercise with the game of Bingo. Throughout the game, Bingocizers complete exercises and answer questions on the topic of health and wellness. The intensity of the exercises and difficulty of the questions are tailored to the players.

Bingocize will be held on Friday, March 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the Eastern Pike Center at Matamoras Firehouse (506 Avenue Q, Matamoras), with more classes to follow. The program has a limited number of slots available. Call the Aging Office at 570-775-5550 to register for Bingocize.

HSIM workouts are offered to area adults at no cost. Classes include warm-up, balance, weight resistance/strength training, and a cool down segment.
