Choosing Integrity of Pike County announced the appointment of Sharon Daniel as the organization’s new executive director. Daniel takes on the role following the retirement of Hampton Morgan, who served as executive director, and co-founded Choosing Integrity in 2014 with Gean Bechthold who currently serves as chairman of the board.

Choosing Integrity is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation registered in Pennsylvania since 2014. The staff, volunteers, and nine members of the board of directors work to support people who are in custody and/or recently released through education and prevention programming, mentorship, advocacy, treatment services, and compassion to help them build relational skills and reintegrate successfully into the community.

Daniel has been a part of Choosing Integrity since 2022. She joined the organization as a certified recovery specialist, facilitating recovery and reentry groups for both men and women at the Pike County Correctional Facility. In addition, she has mentored individuals who have been released and co-facilitates a weekly SMART Recovery meeting at the Choosing Integrity office in Milford.

Before transitioning to the recovery and mental health field, Daniel and her husband Peter, a chef, owned and operated The Fork at Twin Lakes Restaurant in Shohola. After closing the restaurant in 2018, Daniel returned to her passion for mental health and recovery advocacy.

She serves on the Board of Directors of the Carbon-Monroe-Pike Drug and Alcohol Commission, the Advisory Board for the Lackawanna College Culinary Arts Program, and is a member of the Pike County Reentry Coalition. Additionally, she is a peer supervisor and mental health advocate for CHOW – Culinary Hospitality Outreach and Wellness, a nonprofit organization based in Denver, Colorado. CHOW’s mission is “to support wellness within the hospitality industry and improve the lives of our community through shared stories, skills, and resources.”

One of Daniel’s long-term goals for Choosing Integrity is to establish a hospitality training program that will provide vocational training to returning citizens, while also addressing the workforce needs of the hospitality industry in Pike County.

Ms. Daniel shared, “My passion for the mission of Choosing Integrity is strong, and over the past two years, I have witnessed both the struggles and the successes of those reentering our community. Our goal is to see more success stories as we continue to support individuals in their recovery and reintegration.”

In the immediate future, fundraising will be a key focus for Choosing Integrity, the organization stated. For more information, including upcoming events, visit choosingintegrity.org.
